2018 California Fire Relief Fund – ‘Smokey Sun’ T-Shirt designs - Round 1

I was having a conversation with my toddler in which I was attempting to explain why the sky was so smokey. From this an idea was born where we would illustrate a smokey sun in a fun, wavy and child like esthetic. Negative space hints at an outline of the sun and lends itself to be simplistic, modern, clean and best of all - cheap to print with one color hits.

Below is two different directions one leading into a more generic call for relief for both victims and firefighters, and the second focuses more on the firefighters themselves with the FireFighters shield (or Saint Florian Patron of Firefighters Badge) being the outline of the smoke.

Detailed descriptions and explanations can be had in person. All the copy and typography at the moment is just suggested and we can revise and adjust once a final design has been set.

Direction 1

Generic Direction for both Victims and Fireman. Literal Smokey Sun with wavy lines cover the partial sun. A lonely tree stands in the bottom center.

*This design can also be simplified down to just the ‘smokey sun’ graphic to be on the front of the shirt and all typography can be a smaller detail on the back/top of the neck:

This design also lends itself to the possibillity of doing adult mesh hats. We could use  just the sun itself as an easy one color print. More details on the Fund can be printed on the back or inside.

Bay Area specific with the GGB Direction for both Victims and Fireman. Literal Smokey Sun with wavy lines cover the partial sun. A lonely tree stands in the bottom center:

Direction 2

Generic Direction. Smokey Sun with wavy lines cover the partial sun. Focus more on Firemen with the FF shield as our outline representing the sun:

- Multiple colors with a sun hinting at the bottom.
- Bay Area specific with the GGB.

- Alternate versions with axe and ladder icons within the badge center.

More details on the Fund can be printed on the back or inside.
